I'm an oil painter. Can I still take this class?
Absolutely! If you choose to work in oils, the main difference is that you will need to wait for the paint to dry between layers. Ali used to paint in oil as well, but now she is hooked on acrylic because it’s less messy and there is no drying time. When acrylics are layered in the system that Ali teaches, you can achieve colors just as brilliant and juicy as with oils!

Can I use heavy body paints for the lesson?
Yes! You are welcome to try out any of the lessons with the paints you already have available. Ali will be teaching Golden Fluid Acrylics. You might need to thin the heavy body paints with water to get them to work more like the fluid version. There is a list of the 9 paint colors Ali uses inside the course. We recommend that if you plan to purchase any new paints that you buy these. You can start out with the 1 oz version which is much less expensive.
Can I use craft paints for the demos?
You are welcome to try out any of the lessons with the paints you already have available. Ali will be teaching Golden Fluid Acrylics. Craft paints have much less pigment to them so you might not be able to achieve the exact same color as Ali. There is a list of the 9 paint colors Ali uses inside the course. We recommend that if you plan to purchase any new paints that you buy these. You can start out with the 1 oz version which is much less expensive.
Can I paint on canvas?
You are welcome to paint on any surface you choose. We provide traceable outlines templates inside the Fresh Paint course in a variety of sizes. Ali prefers to paint on wood or Art Cambrich material because it is smooth and doesn’t have the texture that traditional canvas has. This allows for cleaner, more dramatic brushstrokes.

I don't want to invest in the large pack of brushes you recommend. What else should I buy?
If you would rather not buy the bulk pack of brushes I use, I understand. Click here to see another option that will work almost as well.
I recommend synthetic flat tip brushes. Natural bristle brushes don’t tend to work very well for the method I teach because they don’t keep a sharp tip.
What kind of sealer should I use on my paintings?
Golden paints do not actually need to be sealed. One reason to add a sealer coat is to even out the sheen. Some paints tend to be more reflective than others. Adding a top coat creates a nice even surface. Ali uses https://www.amazon.com/MODERN-MASTERS-MCS90232-Clear-Satin/dp/B0089V1RKE/ref=sr_1_2?crid=14MGYRYGAWIH5&keywords=modern+masters+masterclear+supreme+satin&qid=1649123714&s=movies-tv&sprefix=modern+masters+masterclear+supreme+satin%2Cmovies-tv%2C66&sr=1-2 in satin finish. You do need to be very careful when you are adding this that you don’t brush back into it if it’s starting to dry. This will create brushmarks in the finish. Work quickly in 6” rows spreading it evenly before it starts to dry.

Why can't I login to my account?
This is often the result of entering an incorrect email address when you registered for the account. Please email us at support@alikaystudio.com and we will assist you.
Why won't the password reset work?
If you forgot your password and tried to reset it by clicking “forgot password,” but something didn’t work correctly, keep in mind:
1. There may be a typo in the email address you used to set up your account (it happens to the best of us!), so you won’t receive the password reset email. If you fear this may be the case, email support@alikaystudio.com, and we’ll check your email address and correct it if needed.
2. Only click the “forgot password” once. If you click it multiple times, you may get an error message: “Error: reset token failed.”
3. Look for the password reset email from Ali’s Art School (it will come from the email address noreply@notify.thinkific.com) in your Spam or Junk folder. It may take 5-10 minutes to receive this email, so be sure to wait instead of clicking “forgot password” again. Clicking “forgot password” multiple times will make the reset link invalid.
4. Another reason you may receive the “Error: reset token failed” message is if you’re using a reset link that is more than 6 hours old.
5. If you’ve done all you can to reset your password, and you’re still having trouble, email support@alikaystudio.com.
Why is my video loading slowly or stopping?
This is typically the result of slow internet or gaps in service. You can check the speed of your internet by going to www.speedtest.net.
I can't get the video to play. Can you help?
The demo videos start with a countdown timer. You can drag the video navigation bar ahead to skip the 10 minute countdown. If you are still having trouble it could be your internet browser or connection. Try using Google Chrome. That typically works best!
If I'm still having trouble, can I reach out?
Certainly! Feel free to email the support team at support@alikaystudio.com.
Questions About Buying and Selling Art
IGNORE THIS
Can I commission a painting of a dog, child, landscape, etc.?
Thanks so much for your interest in a custom painting. Ali’s commission schedule is full at this time. If you would like, you can add your name and email to the waitlist and let you know when she opens it back up again.
Do you have any artwork available for purchase?
Yes! You can find all of Ali’s available work here on her website. Click here to browse and shop.
Can I sell the paintings I create in the course?
You sure can! Ali has a little bit of a different stance on this than most other instructors. She feels that you should absolutely sell the paintings you create inside any of her courses if you want to and have the opportunity to! You are not, however, allowed to teach or share any of the lessons inside the course. If you like to read a bit more on this, checkout Ali’s blog post “Is it Okay for Artists To Copy?”
